Our Focus

പ്രതിരോധം

Mental health is shaped by personal experiences, social conditions, and biological factors. Good mental health is essential to actualize human potential. Society must create conditions, systems and policies that allow each individual to enjoy the best possible mental health. We strongly believe that providing mental health care is a collective social responsibility and therefore support campaigns for universal mental health care that are free at the point of delivery.

ചികിത്സ

We provide high quality clinical care in a compassionate atmosphere that protects an individual’s dignity and enhances a person’s autonomy. We follow international guidelines; we also have excellent systems, policies, and people to provide the most effective care.

അതിജീവനം

We promote self-management to the extent possible and therefore impart skills that will help our patients lead normal lives. Life’s journey is tough for many with mental disorders; we are here to provide support and skills training. Yes, together we can.

CLINICAL SERVICES

OUTPATIENT ASSESSMENTS AND TREATMENTS

We see patients in the OP from 9 am to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday. Our Neuro Developmental disorders clinic is on Saturday. During the FIRST assessment, the patient is seen by a mental health nurse (for comprehensive personal history), a physician (for physical health assessment), a psychologist ( for psychological assessment) , and a Psychiatrist (for recommendations regarding the treatment). Our assessments are comprehensive and this process normally takes 2-3 hours. REVIEW outpatient appointments are specific to the assessed needs and usually take one hour or less. Patients who need psychological interventions or group therapy attend such sessions as per plan. These sessions normally run for one hour.

SEVEN DAY COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT

This in-depth assessment can be done when the patient is staying with us (with or without family). Assessment involves intense daily sessions with: psychologist (focusing on key areas that would have immediate benefits); pharmacist(focusing on medication education and adherence ); mental health nurses( focusing on insight building sessions as part of psycho education ); physician( undertaking physical health assessment); occupational therapist (focusing on learning skills for independent living); and psychiatrist (formulating diagnosis and initial stabilisation on medications). Patients will also receive social skills training and self-regulation / relaxation training. Families attend sessions that pertain to education, adherence, and support. This seven-day programme assesses problems and strengths and sets in motion a goal-driven recovery plan. We also provide a file that includes all our assessment reports. The treatment team discusses the report and the recommendations with the patient’s family. The comprehensive assessment must be booked in advance as places are limited. This seven day programme will assess problems and strengths and initiate a recovery plan with clear goals. We will provide a file with all our assessment reports, for future reference. Our staff will share the report and recommendations with the patient’s family. Please book the comprehensive assessment in advance as places are limited.

EMERGENCY ASSESSMENT UNIT

Our purpose built emergency assessment area is open 24 hours. Assessment and immediate treatment is available on all days, including Sundays. Carers who seek emergency admission for a patient are advised to ring us in advance to ensure that an appropriate bed (in male unit, female unit or in intensive care unit) is available.

HOME EMERGENCY ASSESSMENT

Our emergency community team can assist in the assessment and admission of patients who may refuse to cooperate due to an established mental disorder. The patient’s family must take the initiative to coordinate all relevant tasks including arranging the police assistance necessary to facilitate the activities of our community team. The home emergency assessment service is resource intensive and is presently available only in a limited area.

OUTPATIENT PSYCHOLOGY SERVICE

Our psychologists see patients in the psychology clinics. Patients can access this service even if they are being treated by psychiatrists working in other institutions/hospitals. The psychiatric care of such patients will remain with their own psychiatrist. Individual and group therapy services are available at our psychology clinics.

INTENSIVE CARE UNIT ( ICU )

Our purpose-built, temperature- controlled intensive care unit receives patients who are identified to be a risk to themselves (suicidal ideas) or to others (aggression, violence). Patients in the ICU receive 24 hour high level observation, support, and any other necessary interventions. Depending on the needs, a patient in the ICU may be nursed constantly by 1or 2 staff.

INPATIENT CARE

We have male and female wards. Patients can be admitted even if there are no carers staying with them. We encourage family members to stay with the patients for an initial period (one or two days) following admission and then towards the discharge. All inpatients have a personal recovery care plan; they will also, receive intense input from a multi professional team ( psychiatrist, psychologist, occupational therapist, mental health nurse, social skills trainers, and pharmacist) on dailya daily basis. Inpatients will also participate in group therapy sessions and psychology sessions, daily. as well. Weekly joint reviews with all professionals involved provides an opportunity for family, carers and patients to review progress and revise care plan.

LIGHT HOUSE

Parents and teachers work hard to see that their children do well in education. Learning disorders, Attention deficit disorders, Hyperactivity disorders and Autistic spectrum disorders limit a child’s ability to succeed at school. Many children also suffer from emotional and behavioural difficulties that prevents them from focusing on learning. Early identification, comprehensive assessment, and practical interventions are crucial to reduce the negative effects of these problems. Light House is a specialist neuro developmental disorders centre located with in the campus; it has its own entrance and building. Our specialists can comprehensively assess a child’s difficulties and offer the most effective interventions. We guide families and teachers on how to help these children. Our most comprehensive assessments include home video recording followed by analysis and intervention planning. We have state- of- the- art neuro behavioural assessment and training systems. When recommended by the school teacher, we provide free assessments to economically deserving children.
